 Infant Baptism

For infant to be baptised lawfully, it is required that there be well-founded hope that the child be brought up in the Catholic religion. If such a hope is truly lacking, the baptism is….to be deferred and the parents advised of the reason of this.(Canon 868)

Assurance must be given that the gift thus granted can grow by authentic education in the faith and Christian life in order to fulfil the true meaning of the Sacrament….If these assurances are not really serious there can be grounds for delaying the Sacrament; and if they are certainly non-existent the Sacrament should even be refused.( Instruction on Infant Baptism: 28)

The Church will never refuse Baptism to those who seek it with sincerity, but the decision when to celebrate the Sacrament will vary according to the parents’ readiness.

Baptism:
Parents who wish to have their child baptised in St Francis DeSales must attend a pre-baptism course. Further details from the parish office 01474705361.
